SEREMBAN: Projek Lebuhraya Utara Selatan Bhd (PLUS) will submit a proposal to the authorities to install speed cameras on all six expressways under its jurisdiction.

Its managing director Datuk Azman Ismail said, if approved, the speed cameras would also be installed on the Penang Bridge.

"We will bear the cost of installation but the authorities would have to operate them as we cannot issue traffic summonses to motorists who violate the rules.

"The whole idea is to ensure motorists obey traffic rules and to create road safety awareness," he said at the launch of Ops Selamat 14 by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim on Tuesday (Jan 22).

The event was held at the north-bound Seremban R&R along the North South Expressway.

Azman declined to elaborate when asked on the cost to install the equipment but said it was substantial.

Earlier, Noor Rashid said Ops Selamat would be held from Jan 29 to Feb 12 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.
