PM says it again: Third national car project is good for the country

By THE STAR | 11 April 2019

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today that the move to create a new national car brand will intensify the development of the automotive industry in the country.

He said this at the launch of the April 11-14 Malaysia Autoshow, organised by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute.

The project would be funded by the private sector.

Last October, the government said it had received 21 proposals from both local and foreign firms for the third car project.

In November, the project blueprint was drafted and presented to Dr Mahathir and it was announced that over 50 local vendors had applied to be part of the supply chain in the car project.
