JOHOR BARU: The police mobile patrol vehicle shown going against traffic in Johor in a viral video clip was making its way back towards an accident site between KM23J and KM22.1J of the Second Link Expressway (East Bound) here.
It was not the cause of the accident, said the police.
State police deputy chief Comm Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said the incident occurred at about 2.30am on Sunday when the patrol car near Plaza Tol Perling was notified of the accident by other road users.
“The patrol car was the nearest to the location and decided to turn back since the site of the accident was just 1.5km from Plaza Tol Perling and was only illuminated by a road lamp.
Comm Mohd Kamarudin added that all safety measures had been taken to ensure that the beacon light and siren was turned on and that the patrol car only used the emergency lane to get to its destination.
“The personnel in the patrol car also maintained traffic flow and helped the accident victim before the arrival of a paramedic team,” he added.
A 34-second video went viral on Facebook showing a patrol car driving against traffic before coming to a halt at an accident that involved a motorcycle and a car.
The owner of the video shouted some negative comments while filming the video and blamed the police for the accident.
