KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP), the authorised importer of the Porsche in Malaysia, has expanded its 718 Cayman (launch) model to include a new limited edition SportDesign Series.

The limited edition model builds upon on the 718 Cayman (review) as its base and has been priced from RM625,000, which includes all options mentioned as well as applicable duties, except registration fee, road tax and insurance. It is covered by a four-year warranty with a free maintenance package.

Additionally, it can be had in three colours of Racing Yellow, Guards Red and Carrara White Metallic - and each are limited to five units per colour. That’s right, only 15 units will be made available in Malaysia.

The SportDesign Series is currently available for viewing at all Porsche Centres in Malaysia with its full suite of options provided as standard on top of the SportDesign Package.

For exterior differentiation, it has been subtly slapped with a newly designed front spoiler and rear apron, while the door handles and centrally positioned tailpipes for the standard sports exhaust system receive a gloss black finish.

While rolling on a set of 20-inch lightweight forged one-piece wheels of either Carrera S (gloss black) or Carrera Sport design, the headlights uses the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+) to improve low-light visibility and the rear has been fitted with a pair of three-dimensional tail lights.

Inside, gloss-finished carbon fibre accents the dark interior with the front 14-way powered memory-foamed seats, with dual memory functions for the driver, upholstered in black leather.

A 505-watt, 10-speaker Bose surround sound system has been included as standard for audio entertainment.

Be it for road or track-going duties, this 718 has been fitted as standard with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system that allows for a 10mm-drop in ride-height and sharper handling characteristics.

Lastly, the Sport Chrono Package and a seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK - Porsche double-clutch transmission) has been fitted and that means 0 to 100kph sprints can be achieved in under 5.0 seconds thanks to the 2.0-litre turbocharged flat-four engine with 300PS and 380Nm of torque that can reach a top speed of 275kph.

“The 718 Cayman SportDesign Series is aimed particularly at drivers who appreciate a vehicle that is suitable for everyday use but do not want to sacrifice sportiness,” said SDAP chief executive officer Christopher Hunter.
