KOTA KINABALU: Fook Loi Corporation (Sabah) Sdn Bhd (Fook Loi) has opened the first Proton flagship 4S Centre in Malaysia.

Fook Loi group executive director Thomas Chiu Kui Yin said he could see big potential for Proton in Sabah.

“Deciding to become a Proton dealer was not difficult because we see the potential for Proton in Sabah. The current range of Proton models is highly competitive and technologically advanced with features that appeal to car buyers”.

The opening ceremony was presided by Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal. Also present were Proton CEO Dr Li Chunrong, Fook Loi directors and senior management members of Proton.

Early in its rebranding efforts, Proton realised that in order to capture and expand its consumer base, it needed to have sufficient outlets to cater to their needs, said Dr Li.

"Since outlets are our first point of contact, numerous steps have been taken to ensure that a wholesome experience starts here. These efforts have paid off. Our sales have been on an increasing trend and with our new products, we are confident that we are on track for the company’s return to profitability.”

Chinese car maker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group bought a 49.9% stake in Proton in 2017. The deal with DRB-Hicom also saw Geely getting Proton's 51% stake in Lotus.
