SUBANG JAYA: Proton says the new Persona is tentatively priced from RM47,000 to RM61,000 in Peninsular Malaysia and from RM49,000 to RM63,000 in East Malaysia.

The car, which will be launched on Aug 23, is now open for booking with a refundable fee of RM300. It is available in three variants - Standard, Executive and Premium (with and without body kit) - and comes with a choice of six body colours - Cotton White, Fire Red, Sterling Silver, Graphite Grey, Quartz Black and a new colour, Carnelian Brown.

To sweeten the deal, Proton will offer a three-year free service (parts and labour included) for bookings made by Sept 30.

With a 5-Star Asean NCAP rating across all variants, it provides comprehensive active and passive safety features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control System, Hill-hold Assist, ISOFIX and top tether, Brake Assist, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) as well as 6 airbags for the Premium variant.

First introduced in 2007, the new Persona is the second generation of the Persona family and will follow the "sporty and executive" theme. It is powered by a 1.6L VVT engine for better fuel economy and it is the first Proton car to have an ECO Drive Assist indicator.

The interior promises to be spacious, with ergonomically designed seats and console layout, providing a comfortable ride for the driver and passengers. The car also comes with 510 litres of luggage space.

Other features include a redesigned headlamp, rear spoilers, all-round sensors, 15” alloy wheels as well as electric headlamp levelling.

The imminent arrival of the Persona comes on the heels of a major launch from Perodua, which introduced its Bezza sedan last month.
