PETALING JAYA: Proton is doing its part to support Malaysia’s frontliners battling the Covid-19 pandemic by putting 50 units of the X70 at the disposal of the Health Ministry.

The vehicles on loan will be used mainly to ferry medical workers to and from work as well as to any hot spots in the country.

The X70 offered last week to the healthcare workers are a combination of the fully imported units and the locally assembled version, Proton said in reply to a CarSifu query. It also said it would provide maintenance support for the SUVs for as long as the ministry requires the vehicles to fight the virus.

On the pandemic front, some glimmer of hope prevailed despite the rising infections in the country.

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today that 156 new infections were recorded, bringing the country’s tally to 2,626 cases. The death toll is 37.

On a positive note, he said today saw the highest number of Covid-19 recoveries in a day, with 91 patients discharged.

The cumulative total Covid-19 patients who have recovered is 479. “This is 18.2% of the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country," said Dr Noor Hisham.
