SUBANG JAYA: Proton has kicked off the final quarter of 2019 with 9,503 sales in October. The cumulative total for the first 10 months of the year now stands at 79,833 (domestic + export) units, a growth rate of 46% and a remarkable achievement given that Total-Industry-Volume (TIV) has shrunk by 1.3%.

Market share for the year is estimated at 16%, which is a healthy 5.2% increase over the previous year.

Proton is also in second place in the overall sales table, a position it is confident of maintaining to the end of 2019.

The Proton X70 is still the best-selling premium and executive SUV and over 24,000 units have been delivered thus far, making it Malaysia’s fastest-selling C-segment SUV.

2019 Saga (Custom)

Meanwhile, launched on 6 August 2019, the 2019 updated Proton Saga has received over 28,000 bookings.

In October, the Saga posted its highest sales figure for over four years with 4,273 units sold.

For the first 10 months of the year, the cumulative total is 30,331 Saga units sold, which is a 26% increase over the previous year.

Similarly, the Exora, Iriz and Persona have also shown an increase in sales and as a whole, sales for the trio along with the Saga have increased by 21% thus far this year.

They also accounted for 78% of Proton’s total sales in October and for the whole year, the figure now stands at 68%.

“We are now confident of being able to sell 100,000 units this year, providing us with a solid base to move forward in 2020 and beyond,” said Dr Li Chunrong, CEO of Proton.
