SUBANG JAYA: Proton is stepping up to the plate again to do its part to support the country’s frontliners by making face shields for them.

Production is set to begin on April 13 at Proton’s headquarters in Shah Alam with assembly to be undertaken by staff members who volunteered their services.

The target is to produce 60,000 face shields within 20 days. Face shields are an important component of a health worker’s Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).

Proton's latest move follows on from the loan of 50 units of the X70 to the Ministry of Health.

"We have the know-how to produce cars so we are using that knowledge to produce PPE to support the brave men and women at the frontline of the battle against the spread of Covid-19," said Proton deputy chief executive officer Datuk Radzaif Mohamed.

"The face shields will be delivered in batches and we will work closely with the ministry to distribute them according to need in each district.”
