LONDON: The Range Rover Sport has done away with its V6 power plant and has instead opted to go with a new 3.0-litre turbocharged Ingenium inline-six with a 48-volt mild hybrid system and an electric supercharger to wipe away any sign of turbo lag.

To make this particular model more special, it's being offered exclusively as a special edition HST model that punches out 395hp and 550Nm of torque. That's 15hp more that the previous Range Rover Sport HSE Dynamic with a 3.0-litre V6.

Land Rover says that a detuned HST hybrid with 355hp will also be made available

To assist the turbocharger is a throttle-connected electric supercharger that can get spooling at full speed in 0.5 seconds to provide immediate response.

This helps the HST to get from 0 t0 100kph in 6 seconds (-0.8 seconds) before reaching a top speed of 225kph.

The hybrid system has also been touched on with a new start-stop functionality and there's a small electric motor to help reclaim and store wasted deceleration energy for use later.

In doing so, the HST is able to achieve a fuel economy of 9.3 litres per 100km and emit 213 grams of CO2 per kilometre.

The order books are currently open for the HST in the UK with a base price of £81,250 (RM) and being a special edition, that means it's getting slapped with red brake calipers, carbon fibre parts for the hood, grille, vent and tailgate trim as well as custom exterior and interior badging.
