ZAGREB (Croatia): Rimac Automobil isn't exactly a household name when it comes to the global auto industry. But it's one of a new breed of manufacturer producing all-electric hypercars that could eventually bring about the end of the internal combustion engine in the most exotic performance cars.
And at this year's Geneva Motor Show in March, the Croatian company will be taking the wraps off its second electric hypercar, which currently has the somewhat unremarkable working title of "Concept Two."
It's expected that the proper name of the new car will be revealed at or before the Geneva show, but in the meantime Rimac has released a teaser video and a few details of what to expect when the car is properly launched.
The company may only be nine years old, but the video it has released to create interest in its latest new model is every bit as good as anything the biggest names from Europe and America put out.
If Rimac isn't familiar to you, it's possibly best known as the maker of the car Richard Hammond crashed so spectacularly during the filming of the second series of "The Grand Tour." That car was the Concept One, and Rimac only actually built eight of them in total. The company's CEO, Monika Mikac, has said they intend to build 100 units of the new model, they will be bigger and even more powerful the Concept One, and 20 of them will be ready to be sold this year.
Those are ambitious claims as the first car was an all-wheel drive model that developed a staggering 1,224hp, 1,604Nm of torque, and had a maximum range on a single charge of 330km. It's entirely possible then that the new car could improve upon the previous model's top speed of 354kph, but it could also exceed the Concept One's asking price of one million euros (RM4.8mil) too.
