KUALA LUMPUR: The Government has paid over RM60mil in contract service fees to two firms for the implementation of the Automated Enforcement System (AES).
In a written reply to Khalid Abdul Samad (PAS-Shah Alam), Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said up to Aug 25 this year, the Government has paid a total of RM60,122,080 to two companies.
The two companies concerned are ATES Sdn Bhd, which was paid RM27,181,584 and Beta Tegap Sdn Bhd, which was paid RM32,940,496.
Liow also said from Sept 23, 2012 until Sept 30 this year, over two million summonses were issued.
"There were 2,144,921 summons issued for driving above the speed limit and not obeying traffic lights," said Liow in a written reply.
On Sunday, Liow said the Government would announce the result of an overall review of the AES implementation early next year.
He said the Government wanted to ensure that the AES implementation would go hand-in-hand with the demerit points system (Kejara).
Liow said currently, there were 14 AES cameras in operation, adding the Government had not abandoned the system and those issued with summonses still needed to pay them.
