Rolls-Royce Dawn launched

LONDON: Rolls-Royce has finally revealed its latest model, a convertible it describes as the sexiest car it has ever built.

The new model revives the Dawn name, first used in 1952 for the Silver Dawn drophead (convertible to you and me), and is a move by Rolls-Royce to lure younger drivers to its fold.

This famous and rare Rolls-Royce name was only ever applied to 28 very special drophead bodies between 1950 and 1954.

The new Dawn is Rolls-Royce’s most powerful full four-seat drophead motor car to date, and is lighter and more fuel efficient than the majority of 2+2 convertibles in the market.

It is equipped with an 8-speed ZF gearbox and a 6.6 litre twin-turbo V12,that delivers 563bhp at 5250rpm and 780Nm of torque at a lowly 1500rpm for the usual effortless drive even when going uphill.

Top speed is restricted to 250kph while the 0-100kph routine is completed in 4.9s.

The car maker stressed that the Dawn is an all-new model and not an open-top variant of the Wraith, featuring 80% unique body panels.

It’s also a full four-seater, and not a 2+2 seating, where the rear seats are always too small for the average adult.

Rolls-Royce claims the Dawn is the quietest open top car ever made. The soft-top of the Rolls-Royce Dawn delivers the silence of a Wraith when up and operates in almost complete silence in just over 20 seconds at a cruising speed of up to 50kph.

Satellite Aided Transmission comes standard on Dawn.

Satellite Aided Transmission utilises GPS data to allow the car to see beyond what the driver sees, anticipating their next move based on location and driving style. For example when approaching a sweeping bend, the car will predict how you wish to drive through it. When the driver lifts the accelerator it will hold the lower gear to ensure maximum power is available on accelerating through the exit of the corner.

Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke Audio system has been specially calibrated for the unique configuration of the Dawn. Whether the roof is open or closed, Bespoke Audio promises perfect acoustic balance and performance.

Grip is provided by 20-inch runflat tyres (21-inch optional). These tyres enable the Dawn to run on a deflated tyre for at least 160km fully deflated.
