By JAY WONG | 25 November 2020

LONDON: Rolls Royce is laying to rest the notion that its Black Badge variants have to be black by releasing a limited run of super-solid Neon Nights colours.

The colours were created initially for clients in the United States with three iterations of each colour currently available for commission worldwide.

Comprising of the Wraith, Dawn and Cullinan under the Black Badge moniker, each colour is available in a different hue that takes its inspiration from the natural world.

The Wraith Black Badge is finished in a Lime Rock Green that's practically a near-luminous hue that's inspired by the Australian green tree frog.

Rolls-Royce bespoke paint specialist Sami Coultas first came across the frog during a trip to Tamworth, north of Sydney in Australia.

The interior of the has been swathed in Scivaro Grey leather, with Lime Rock Green accents in the form of stitching and piping.

On the other side of the spectrum is the striking Eagle Rock Red for the Dawn Black Badge.

This colour mimics the flowers of ‘Ōhi‘a lehua - an evergreen tree native to Hawaii.

Here, the interior is finished in Selby Grey leather with Koi Red stitching and piping details.

As for the Cullinan, the Bespoke Collective looked to the exotic Rhetus Periander butterfly for inspiration.

Known as the Periander metalmark, this butterfly species found across Central and South America has a wonderful blue on its wings, to which the Cullinan has picked Mirabeau Blue to represent it.

Inside, the cabin features an Arctic White leather interior that's accented by Lime Rock Green to provide dramatic contrast.

In all three cars, the Technical Fibre fascia is embellished with a spectacular graphic while the paint effect provides an intense neon glow and depicts the distortion of artificial light with speed.

The Neon Nights cars follow the suite of Black Badges that were presented during the 2019 Pebble Beach event and consisted of the Ghost, Wraith and Dawn finished in Bespoke pastel colours.

Such was the demand for these cars, the colour palette was embraced and developed, inspiring a new and dynamic colour palette for Black Badge.

Just three further examples of each colour will be made available for commission worldwide.

"Taking cues from the natural world, including an Australian green tree frog, a Hawaiian tree flower and an exotic butterfly, these limited hues show Black Badge bolder in colour, appealing to patrons around the world who really do dare to be different,” Rolls-Royce Motor Cars bespoke designer (colour and trim) Sami Coultas.
