Rolls-Royce starts testing new aluminium space-frame architecture

LONDON: Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has just issued a status report, saying that it has begun testing an all-new aluminium space-frame architecture that will underpin all future models arriving in market from early 2018.

The new architecture was announced last February.

Engineering mules will be assessed on public roads in various locations around the world.  The current testing phase aims to ensure that the new space-frame structure delivers Rolls-Royce’s trademark "magic-carpet ride" on a variety of surfaces and that it is resilient to extreme weather conditions.

This lightweight platform would be used to make Rolls-Royce's first crossover that will aim to compete with the Bentley Bentayga.
