Safety vehicles on PLUS causing a jam — for good reason

By CARSIFU | 20 May 2019

PETALING JAYA: Motorists using the expressways of Malaysia will have at some time or other come across stray objects on the road that are as innocuous as plastic bags or as big as an overturned trailer.

Sometimes, such objects could be nails, oil slick, sand or detached retreads from heavy vehicles.

In most cases, the highway maintenance crew will have to remove them to ensure there are no obstacles that could hamper the journey for road users.

What is more important, however, is that most obstacles, no matter their size, could potentially caused accidents and fatalities especially when cars are travelling at speeds.

UEM Group, which owns PLUS Malaysia Bhd and Edgenta Infrastructure Services, posted on Sunday a public educational video, highlighting the importance of using safety vehicles to clear its highways of objects to minimise accidents and to ensure a smooth journey.

The video details how the safety vehicles, operated by Edgenta Infrastructure Services, carve out a safe zone for the response team to remove stray objects.

It usually takes 15 mins to 30 mins for the clearing exercise to be completed.

So the next time, you see these safety vehicles cutting off traffic and moving slowly in formation, know that they are doing it in the interest of your safety. Follow instructions displayed on the safety vehicles and all will be right as rain.
