Singaporean fined RM8,000 for switching car number plate

JOHOR BARU: A Singaporean who displayed the registration number of another vehicle on his car in May has been fined by the Magistrate’s Court here.

Tan Hock Lai, 44, pleaded guilty before magistrate Nurasidah A Ra­h­­­man when the charge was read to him.

Tan was fined RM8,000 which he paid. According to the charge sheet, the offence was committed at a petrol station near the Second Link in Gelang Patah at about 7.35am on May 18.

The case was prosecuted by Road Transport Department (JPJ) pro­secuting officer Mohd Khairi Ismail while Tan was not represented.

Tan surrendered to the JPJ after photos of him changing the plate number of his gold BMW at a petrol station went viral on social media.
