MLADÁ BOLESLAV: Skoda is the latest name to enter the SUV segment and it plans to launch a large SUV named Kodiaq in early 2017.

The model name refers to the Kodiak bear that lives on a remote island off the southern coast of Alaska.  Its spelling is derived from the language of the indigenous people – the Alutiiq.

Škoda will kick off the new SUV campaign with the introduction of the Kodiak when it makes its public debut in the second half of 2016.

At 4.70 metres long, Skoda's new SUV is said to be able to seat seven people comfortably and is touted to offer "remarkable performance on and off the beaten track".  The power of the Kodiaq is also suggested in its design – distinctive, muscular lines representing a dynamic, robust and strong appearence.

The Kodiaq advertising campaign will run with the tagline of "Discover new ground", which is expected to attract new consumer groups in the fast-growing SUV segment. The SUV will make its public debut in the second half of 2016.
