SHAH ALAM: Nasim Sdn Bhd hopes that the soon-to-be-launched all-new Peugeot 308 THP would give it a comeback boost in the C-segment category.

In an exclusive sneak preview of the car before its launch next month, Nasim chief operating officer Datuk Samson Anand George said that the car would be the first of the three new car models planned for 2015.

“We are confident that this car which will be priced indicatively from RM135,000 would make its mark in the Malaysian market. This is an award winning car in Europe and this will bring about renewed confidence and image for Peugeot in Malaysia,” Samson told StarBiz.

“We have already received close to 100 bookings for the car nationwide even without a full-scale advertising and promotion yet. I am expecting sales of about 1,000 to 1,200 units per year for this car that will work out to about 20% of our total car sales,” he said.

The company sold 5,498 Peugeot cars last year and is aiming to sell 6,000 cars this year.

The all new Peugeot 308 THP (or turbo high pressure) runs on a 1.6-litre turbo engine and was named the “2014 European Car of the Year” receiving 307 points with top marks from 22 of 58 jurors.

“I would say this is a premium package brought to consumers at an interesting price proposition.” Samson said.

Nasim marketing and product management general manager Yasser Awan said that this was the first car in Peugeot’s range built on a new platform called efficient modular platform 2.

“Along with the platform, we have a new drivetrain. So there will be a new engine with this car and a new six-speed automatic Aisin gearbox with Quickshift technology sourced from Japan that enables faster gear changes for better performance and fuel efficiency,” Yasser said.

“The car’s weight has also been cut by 140kg over the previous 308 model. The priority of the design was to save weight given the high usage of high-strength steel that also makes the car safer and more fuel efficient at 6.5 litres per 100km,” Yasser said.
