BEIJING: Techrules, an automotive research and development company based in Beijing, has hired Italian designers Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro, and engineering and production specialist L.M. Gianetti, for its supercar project, reports Automotive News Europe.

Techrules had premiered its revolutionary turbine-recharging electric vehicle (TREV) technology at the 86th Geneva International Motor Show earlier this year.

The TREV technology will be used for China’s first supercar, which is due to be launched in the next three years.

Techrules is also looking at possible sites in Europe to produce the AT96 and GT96 variants of its supercar.

TREV is a range extender system that uses a micro-turbine to generate electricity that charges a battery pack.

A development prototype has begun tests in February 2016 at the Silverstone race circuit in the United Kingdom.

The supercar can produce peak power of 1,030bhp and initial projections indicate blistering performance (0 - 100km/h in 2.5 seconds; 350 km/h restricted top speed) and a long travel range (over 2,000 km).

Under plug-in operation, it achieves fuel consumption of just 0.18 litre per 100km.
