KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP), the official importer of Porsche vehicles in the country, has previewed the latest Cayenne (E3) sport utility vehicle (SUV).

Following the Cayenne's (E3) global debut last year in Stuttgart, Germany, the full-sized SUV is now available for pre-order and is expected to arrive towards the end of this year while the company keeps tight-lipped on its price for the moment.

Porsche Cayenne S (E3) - 17
At the very least, we've been informed that there will be two variants available starting with the entry-level Cayenne that will have 340hp (+40hp) on tap from its 3.0-litre turbocharged engine.

The range-topping Cayenne S will be sporting a more potent 440hp (+20hp) 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 - allowing it to sprint from 0 to 100kph in under 5.0 seconds if equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package.

The Cayenne will be some 65kg-lighter than its predecessor due to the extensive use of aluminium for its chassis and body panels and manage power delivery to its active all-wheel drive system with a new eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox.

The Cayenne will also be rolling on 21-inch wheels that wear (for the first time) mixed tyres and have rear-axle steering as well as Porsche 4D Chassis Control, three-chamber air suspension and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) - an electronic roll stabilisation system.

The braking system will feature the German sportscar builder's latest braking technology - Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB), which replaces its long-standing Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake system.

The PSCB maintains use of the common cast iron disc brake system which has a mirror-like finish thanks to the tungsten carbide coating that prevents it from rusting and significantly reducing the occurrence of brake dust.

Inside, the cabin mirrors the Panamera's and the SUV will also receive the Porsche Advance Cockpit display for its instrument cluster.

"The new Cayenne is now more precise, elegant, athletic and expressive. The new Cayenne has also been digitalised and networked throughout by providing another level of digital connectivity to the cockpit. This includes versatility, quality and new cutting edge driver assistance systems that offer both driver and passengers extraordinary comfort. This is how the Cayenne makes the Porsche experience even more fascinating but remains as a genuine sports car for five," said SDAP chief executive officer Arnt Bayer.
