MUNICH: The day has come where a smartphone in your hand could do a better job of washing your car than a sponge and some soapy water.
Car wash manufacturer Washtec has its sights on establishing an international app called EasyCarWash that allows customers to book and pay at their car washes.
Motorists can then drive directly into the car wash and choose their preferred program by mobile phone - without even having to get up and walk over to pay for the cleaning.
"You can get out, but you don't have to," CFO Axel Jaeger said at the company headquarters in Augsburg near here.
To ensure that the right car is washed, the car wash scans the licence plate, and matches it to the order made by the driver.
The German-based car washing company, whose products are used in petrol stations around the world, believes that the offer is particularly interesting for small or mid-sized car wash operators, while bigger stations may develop their own apps.
The car wash company promises its customers higher sales with the use of the app, predicting that drivers with the app would spend twice as much on car washes as other customers.
