Toyota and Suzuki discuss joint ventures for India and Africa

TOKYO: Toyota Motor Corp and Suzuki Motor Corp are in discussions for new joint projects in emerging markets like India, and also in Africa.

In particular, Suzuki is keen on getting support from Toyota to develop a new compact, ultra high-efficiency powertrain while Toyota wants better business revenue from India, and also Africa.

The talks concern:

- Denso Corp and Toyota to provide Suzuki with technological support for a compact, ultra high-efficiency powertrain to be developed by Suzuki.

- Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Ltd (TKM) to produce models developed by Suzuki for sale in India through Toyota and Suzuki networks.

- Supply of models developed by Suzuki, including those to be produced by TKM, from India to Africa and other markets by Toyota and Suzuki.

Toyota president Akio Toyoda noted that Suzuki was the first (among Japanese companies) to enter India.

"As I like to say, Suzuki is a company that puts into practice being "The Best in Town." Toyota, along with Suzuki, will do its best to make "Make in India" vehicles cherished in Africa and other countries," said Toyoda.

Suzuki chairman Osamu Suzuki said, "Now, we will receive support for the development of a compact, ultra high-efficiency powertrain that is vital to Suzuki."
