TOKYO: The new Toyota Harrier will be unveiled in June 2020 and offered in two powertrain variants, namely a 2.5-litre hybrid with electric continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine with Direct Shift-CVT.

The new 5-seater sport utility vehicle (SUV) has sharp styling, and design highlights include signature lamps and a continuity of lines flowing from the front upper grill through to the headlamps.

The interior has tactile synthetic leather, and bentwood-inspired wood tones and piping.

A panorama roof, used for the first time by Toyota, features electric shades and electro-chromatic windows which can be dimmed for softer cabin light ambience.

The new Harrier uses the Toyota New Global Architecture or TNGA (GA-K) platform which creates a highly rigid body with a low center of gravity for better ride comfort and driving performance.

The suspension system benefits from MacPherson struts at the front and a double wishbone setup at the rear.

Safety features include Active Cornering Assist (ACA) for braking control to prevent understeering at corners.

There is also Toyota Safety Sense, which employs a pre-collision safety system that detects pedestrians during the day and at night, as well as cyclists during the day.

Advanced technology here include Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Parking Support Brakes (stationary objects) that helps reduce or mitigate damage from collisions during low-speed driving in parking lots.

The Digital Inner Mirror, used for the first time by Toyota, enables recording of images to the front and rear of the vehicle while driving.
