Traffic volume up on highways as holiday makers journey back

PETALING JAYA: Traffic on all major highways are congested on Monday as city folks return home after the Worker's Day weekend.

Star Traffic reported that traffic on the North-South Expressway in the northern region is congested from Changkat Jering to Kuala Kangsar, at the Menora tunnel heading towards Jelapang, Simpang Pulai to Gopeng, after Gua Tempurung to Tapah, and Bidor to Sungkai as of 3.30pm.

In the southern region of the NSE, traffic is congested from Machap to the Machap Rest area and from Putra Mahkota to Bangi due to an accident at KM294. Delays are expected from a 31km crawl from Simpang Ampat to Port Dickson.

Traffic was also congested on the Karak Highway from the Karak toll to Bentong, Bentong Timur to Bentong Barat. Vehicles are backed up over a 6km after Lentang to Bukit Tinggi and 5km approaching the Gombak toll to Kuala Lumpur.

On the East-Coast Expressway traffic is backed up from Bukit Gambang to the Gambang Rest area possibly due to an accident at KM206.

However, traffic is heavy but moving from Maran to Temerloh.

Traffic congestion is also reported at since noon in Cameron Highlands. Expect continuous delays for an hour at the surrounding areas of Ringlet, Tanah Rata and Brinchang.

According to Star Traffic, the public can also expect delays along Kuala Pilah to Tanjong Ipoh, the surrounding areas of Mahkota Parade and Pantai Klebang in Malacca.

At the Johor Causeway, expect delays on all lanes heading towards Singapore while on the Penang Bridge traffic is clear for now in both directions between the island and the mainland.
