PUTRAJAYA: The fee for the transfer of ownership of motorcycles will be standardised at RM3 nationwide beginning April 1, the Transport Ministry announced.

At present, the fee is RM3 for the peninsula, RM5 in Sarawak and RM40 in Sabah.

Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said this was to ease the burden of Malaysian citizens.

As of June last year, there were nearly 13 million motorcycles registered on the road nationwide. Johor led the way with over 1.8 million motorcycles, followed by Federal Territories and Selangor.
