UD Trucks launches Croner medium-duty truck range

SERDANG: UD Trucks, owned by Swedish truck giant Volvo Group and distributed solely by Tan Chong Industrial Equipment (TCIE), launched its latest medium-duty Croner truck at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang today.

The company touts its Croner (named after the god of time in Greek mythology) medium-duty truck range to be one that's specifically made for growth markets like Malaysia with versatility, uptime, safety, reliability and robustness.

The Croner uses the new GHE engine series mated to a new transmission and a newly designed aerodynamic cab. A n automatic transmission is also available for all variants.

It comes in two gross vehicle weight models starting with the smaller 12-tonne LKE and the the larger 18-tonne PKE, and their various wheelbase variants is able offer a wide range of configurations to suit specific demands of various industries.

As standard, a full airbrake system, including anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, and S-cam drum brakes as well as front underrun protection is available in all variants.

The air suspension on the PKE models is available as an added option to help protect a client's cargo when traversing over rougher terrain.

While rolling 19.5-inch steel wheels with 265/70, the 12-tonne LKE with a 5,500mm wheelbase uses a 190-litre fuel tank to feed the Euro3 5,132cc GH5E 210 EC01 turbodiesel engine.

Power is rated at 210hp at 2,200rpm and 825Nm of torque from 1,200 to 1,600rpm, while being mated to a UDT ST1006 six-speed manual synchronized direct drive gearbox with cable gear shift linkage remote control.

The PKE model range, however, gets a larger Euro3 7,698cc GH8E 250 EC01 turbodiesel engine , producing 250hp at 2,200rpm and 950Nm of torque from 1,100 to 1,700rpm, while rolling on 22.5-inch steel discs with 295/80 tyres.

“Safety is a very important aspect to UD Trucks, and as such, the all-new Croner is equipped with superior braking and handling features to keep drivers and fleets in prime condition. Designed with good level of passive safety in the event of an accident, the reinforced cabin also ensures safety and extra durability to the driver even under rough road conditions,” said UD Trucks product management vice president Toshihiko Odawara.

Also, customers who purchase UD Trucks will also be supported by UD Extra Mile Support services which includes UD Genuine Service and Parts, UD Driver Training and UD Trust Services Agreement for customers.

Furthermore, the Croner will also come factory-fitted with the company’s own remote monitoring system - UD Telematics, which keeps customers updated on their fleet in real-time format in terms of location, fuel reports, service reminders, remote diagnostics and quick break-down assistance.
