KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Group registered 31,222 vehicles in June 2023 on the back of new model launches from both UMW Toyota Motor and associate company Perodua.

"The introduction of competitive and exciting new models helped to drive sales in the first half of 2023.

"We are confident that both companies will achieve their sales targets for 2023 based on the outstanding bookings," said UMW Holdings president and group CEO Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali in a statement.

In June, the group said UMW Toyota recorded an 8% increase in sales to 8,669 from the previous month.

Year-to-date, the Toyota arm registered 48,659 units, representing a 6% year-on-year increase.

"The all-new Toyota Vios, which was launched in March this year, followed by the Corolla Cross and Hilux were the top-selling models in the first half of 2023.

"UMWT unveiled the all-new Toyota Innova Zenix on 21 June 2023, which has received encouraging orders," said UMW.

Meanwhile, Perdoua recorded 22,553 units in June, which was 9% lower compared with 24,699 units delivered in May 2023 due to the closure of the manufacturing plant for one week for the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration.

So far in 2023, Perodua has sold 144,490 units, which is 14% higher than in the same period in 2022, on the back of top-selling models Bezza, Myvi and Axia.

Perodua said it expects both production and sales to continue trending higher in the second half of 2023, amid an improving supply chain and sustained demand.
