UMW Toyota taking orders for up-rated GR Supra from RM590K

SHAH ALAM: UMW Toyota has introduced an updated version to its GR Supra that's on its way and it isn't limited to just a power upgrade.

Currently, the Japanese brand is welcoming orders for this up-rated GR Supra and interested parties can place a booking at selected authorised Toyota GR Garage showrooms found throughout the nation.

In terms of cost, the GR Supra is priced on-the-road without insurance from RM611,880, but thankfully - with the current sales tax exemption, that figure drops down to RM589,987.

The 3.0-litre inline-six turbocharged engine under the long hood of the sports coupe has been "beefed-up" with an additional 14% hike in power output.

That means, there's now 388PS on tap from 5,800 to 6,500rpm while torque remains at 500Nm, only this time it peaks at 1,800 and continues all the way to 5,000rpm instead of its initial 1,600 to 4,500rpm previously.

In doing so, Toyota's engineers decided to add a new dual-branch six-port exhaust manifold instead of the initial two-port to help improve heat management due to the performance gain before installing new pistons to reduce the engine’s compression ratio from 11:1 to 10.2:1.

And to manage power delivery is the familiar eight-speed automatic transmission from German transmission specialist ZF.

The powerplant upgrades allow the GR Supra to shave 0.2 seconds off its century (0-100kph) sprint time at 4.1 seconds.

To complement the added power, its chassis has been tweaked to further resist the onset of roll through the addition of a new Performance Rod (thicker anti-roll bars in "normal" speak) which increases lateral rigidity and thus enhance cornering stability. This is all thanks to the feedback garnered from high-performance drivers it seems.

Other than that, the GR Supra also receives red-coloured brake callipers that now bear the Supra logo upfront while other technical specifications and features remain the same.

For those planning to have their Supra draped in Deep Blue Metallic exterior finish, think again because this particular colour has been axed from the list.

However, there are seven other colour options to choose from such as Prominence Red, Lightning Yellow, White Metallic, Silver Metallic, Ice Grey Metallic, Black Metallic and Matte Storm Grey Metallic.

In terms of standard fitment, the GR Supra still has its Adaptive Variable Suspension and Electronically-Controlled Limited-Slip Differential (LSD) as well as other safety systems that include Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Intelligent Parking Sensor with Emergency Braking Function and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert to name a few.

Within the driver-centric cabin, driver's get to keep their eyes on the road thanks to the inclusion of a heads-up display while being comfortably seated in an electronically-powered seat that commits their driving position to memory while enjoying the sound quality of the 12-speaker JBL audio system.
