The vehicle in question is the Vanderhall Edison from Vanderhall Motor Works, which, like the Morgan EV3, is an all-electric, two-seat, lightweight three-wheel vehicle that looks like it would be a lot of fun to drive.
To say the specifications of the Vanderhall Edison are impressive would be something of an understatement. It has a pair of AC motors that produce a healthy 180 horsepower and 240 lb.-ft. of torque, and it weighs in at just 635kg.
That translates to a 0 to 100kph time of just four seconds, which is less than half the time it takes the Morgan EV3 to do the same.
The Edison also has the Morgan beat when it comes to the driving range available on a single charge. The EV3 only offers a range of 240km, while the 30 kWh battery in the Edison is good for more than 321km. The Edison only has a top speed of 169kph, but when you look at it and imagine yourself seated in it, that will probably seem like more than enough.
Vanderhall marketing director Daniel Boyer says of the Edison, "EVs have amazing performance advantages. Offering an electric powertrain is in line with Vanderhall's focus on innovative, effortless performance. Our Venice model is already nimble, and the Edison is the quickest Vanderhall we have ever produced."
Although the driver and passenger are obviously exposed to the elements in the Edison, the black V-Tex synthetic upholstered seats are heated as standard, and the vehicle also comes with a dual-venting heating system. Other features include a 600-watt sound system with Bluetooth compatibility, LED lighting, traction control and single-piston Brembo brakes with brake assist.
As you would probably imagine, cargo capacity is very much at a premium with just 39.64 litres. However, although Morgan hasn't confirmed final pricing for the EV3, it's more than likely to cost quite a bit more than the US$34,950 (RM140,000) that's being asked for the Vanderhall Edison.
