KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has finally introduced the new Golf R-Line today, completing the new Golf family line-up in Malaysia.

You may recall that it started the rollout of the new Golf only last month. At that time, it didn't have the R-Line ready yet, which meant it had to swing with what it had, namely the Golf 1.4TSI in Sportline, GTI 2.0TSI and  R 2.0TSI forms.

The Golf R-Line is priced at RM166,990. The Golf R-Line is basically a Golf 1.4TSI which is - inspired with the bodykits and new wheels. But the R-Line comes with Active Info Display, while the Sportline doesn't.

The car is decked in the ‘R-Line’ styling package which includes the ‘R-Line’ front and rear bumper, rear spoiler, ‘R-Line’ badges on radiator grille and side panels, and 17” Singapore alloy wheels.



VPCM managing director Erik Winter said the R-Line’s arrival completes the Golf family line-up.

“Since the launch of the Golf family, we have received very positive response towards the variants – and now with today’s unveiling, the family is complete.

"The Golf is such an iconic model for Volkswagen, and has a strong following here and around the world, so it is no surprise that more than 34 million units have been sold worldwide since it its market introduction in 1974. To date, demand for the Golf remains an all-time high for us.”

Under the hood, the Golf R-Line’s 1.4TSI turbocharged engine is mated with a 7-speed dry clutch direct shift gearbox (DSG), to give 148hp and a torque of 250Nm between 1,500 and 3,500rpm.

It has a 12.3” Active Info Display and 8” screen Composition Media with App-Connect (which runs systems such as MirrorLink, Android Auto and Apple Carplay). Other convenience features include LED headlights (with Dynamic Cornering Lights), 2-Zone Climatronic air conditioning system, rear-view camera, keyless entry, electronic parking brake and Driving Mode Selections with four different modes of Eco, Normal, Sport and Individual.



Equipped with 7 airbags, the Golf R-Line comes with an array of advanced safety features such as Maneuver Braking which automatically brakes the car when it senses objects up 10kph during parking. Also available is Automatic Post Collision Brake System where the brakes are automatically applied to prevent subsequent impact when the vehicle is involved in a collision.

The Golf R-Line also comes with Rest Assist and Proactive Occupant Protection System, which looks out for the driver and occupants in the vehicle while the Advanced Electronic Differential Lock (XDS) provides added grip during fast cornering.

The Golf R-Line is available in Tumeric Yellow, Atlantic Blue, Pure White, Deep Black, White Silver and Indium Grey.

It was unveiled at at the Malaysia Autoshow 2018.
