LONDON: Electric truck maker Volta Trucks has confirmed that the full-electric Volta Zero will be revealed at an online launch event at 10:00 BST (5pm in Malaysia) on Sept 3.

As the first purpose-built full electric large commercial vehicle designed specifically for inner city freight and parcel distribution, Volta Trucks said the launch of the Volta Zero would be a significant moment for society’s movement towards zero-emission cities, and improvements in safety for all road users.

The online launch event would bring together Volta Trucks CEO Rob Fowler and a number of Volta Trucks’ speakers, customers and investors.

According to Volta Trucks, the Volta Zero is the world’s first full-electric 16-tonne vehicle designed for inner-city freight deliveries, reducing the environmental impact of freight deliveries in city centres. Designed from the ground up with an operating pure-electric range of 150 - 200km, the Volta Zero is said to be able to remove an estimated 180,000 tonnes of CO2 by 2025.

Volta Trucks said the absence of an engine means the Volta Zero driver sits in a central driving position, with a much lower seat height than a conventional truck. This combination, plus a glass house-style cab design, gives the driver a wide 220-degrees of visibility, minimising dangerous blind spots.

The first prototype Volta Zero is currently being built, and will be launched later in 2020, with the first pilot test vehicles due to start evaluation with customers in Q1-2021.
