Volvo to change car naming system, says report

GOTHENBURG: Volvo Cars is aiming to change the nomenclature for its vehicles as it gears up for an all-electric future by 2030, according to Automotive News.

Right now, Volvo is using an alphanumeric naming system like S60 for its sedan or XC90 for its SUV. That will soon be history apparently.

At Wednesday's Volvo roadmap announcement where the Concept Recharge EV was introduced, CEO Håkan Samuelsson had indicated an all-electric XC90 would be renamed. "This car will have a name, more like a child," he had said.

The flagship electric SUV is expected to be launched next year.

Automotive News also said all battery electric vehicles coming out of Volvo in future would also follow the new naming system.

As to how Volvo cars would be named in future, that's still murky until the Swedish automaker is good and ready to announce it officially.
