Power has been rated at 252hp at 5,500rpm and 350Nm of torque from 1,800 to 4,800rpm, allowing it to tow up to 2,100kg as well as sprint from 0 to 100kph in 6.4 seconds before reaching a top speed of 230kph - all this while having a drag coefficient of 0.34Cd and a combined fuel consumption of 7.7 litres per 100km.

Sitting 211mm off the ground, the XC40's exterior gets fitted as standard with a R-Design grille, dual integrated tailpipes, illuminated door handles with ground lighting and 19-inch five-double spoke alloy wheels with black diamond cut finish wearing 235/50 series tyres and equipped with an indirect tyre pressure monitoring system.

Up front, the SUV also uses LEDs for its automatic levelling headlights, 'Thor's hammer' daytime running lights and front (with cornering function) and rear fog lights, while a gloss black finish has been applied to the integrated roof rails, front and rear skid plates as well as the power retractable exterior mirrors.

The XC40 will automatically illuminate all its external lights with its welcome / approach light system after detecting its owner’s key FOB is within range and allows them entry, via the keyless-entry with push-start button system, into the dark interior (upholstered in a combination of black leather and nubuck), as two LED strips across the Charcoal headliner - one for the front and another for the rear cabin, provides the illumination.

With the front occupants getting power adjustable seats (driver with memory function), the driver's forward clarity is taken car of by the automatic wipers and gets to view aft-ward through a frameless rear view mirror with auto dimming function as well as stomp on the R-Design sport pedals and fidget with the R-Design gear lever while helming the SUV with the perforated leather-wrapped three-spoke R-Design steering wheel with controls and paddle shifters.

Meanwhile, as a wireless charge pad replenishes a gadget's battery level, a full-colour 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 9.0-inch Sensus Connect touchscreen with navigation stares back and the dual-zone automatic climate controls with rear vents help occupants stay cool while enjoying the 250W eight-speaker sound system with navigation, reverse camera, two USB ports, a single USB Type-C port, Bluetooth, Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Likewise, it can also hold the vehicle in place when stopped facing upwards on a hill for a few seconds with its hill-start assist and similarly, its electronic parking brake has an auto-hold function which activates once the vehicle comes to a full stop. Additionally, the SUV comes equipped with an adaptive cruise control, semi-autonomous Pilot Assist drive and front and rear Park Assist for added convenience.
