WOLFSBURG: Volkswagen has announced that performance models of the ID. family would wear the GTX badge, starting with the ID.4 GTX.

Similar to GTI and GTE, it stands for top performance models in the electric world.

"The letters GT have long stood for driving pleasure," said Klaus Zellmer, Board Member for Marketing and Sales at the Volkswagen brand. “Now the X is building the bridge to the mobility of the future. Sustainability and sportiness are not mutually exclusive, but complement each other intelligently."

The GTX models come with an extra electric motor on the front axle bringing all-wheel drive into the ID. family. The additional motor kicks in automatically when very high performance or strong traction are required. In the new “Traction” driving mode, it is even permanently activated.

In addition, sporty design details and their own light signature will underline the top performance of the GTX models.

According to the UK's Autocar, the ID.4 GTX is expected to have a combined output of 302hp and 461Nm of torque, giving a claimed 0-100kph sprint time of 6.2s.
