KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Malaysia will be the official sponsor for Centro Pictures' Centro Pictures’ upcoming street racing movie, ‘KL Wangan’. The agreement was signed during a ceremony held at Volkswagen Gombak last week.
This is the first time an international car marque is supporting a local film production, and is a way for Volkswagen to promote its products further.
KL Wangan, which translates to KL Midnight Race, promises to be packed with high speed car chases and thrills. The film is directed by actor Pekin Ibrahim and will showcase some of Volkswagen’s most iconic models – the high-performance Golf R, the Golf GTI, the Beetle, and the soon-to-be launched Passat.
“Volkswagen Malaysia is pleased and thrilled to be a part of this upcoming movie and we see this is as a great platform for us to build our brand presence in the Malaysian market. The local film industry has seen tremendous growth in the recent years and through ‘KL Wangan’, we are confident that it will only continue to strengthen," said Volkswagen Malaysia marketing director Isabela Pascu.
Pekin, who is also a Volkswagen owner and enthusiast, will star in the movie alongside Faizal Hussein, Jasmine Suraya, Kazuto, Emily Lin and Farouk.
Production began on Aug 21, with filming scheduled to take place around big cities and Malaysian landmarks.
