BERLIN: VW has announced plans to launch a more muscly top version of its ID4 electric SUV this summer and instead of GTI or GTE, it will bear a new GTX badge and add a second motor for more horsepower, according to Volkswagen
In addition to the 204-horsepower motor in the rear, there's a second electric motor on the front axle, turning the GTX into an all-wheel drive electric while also boosting system output to 299hp.
This allows the ID4 GTX to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 6.2 seconds and while the normal ID models peak at 160kph, the GTX is electronically limited to 180kph, according to the manufacturer.
The power for this is supplied by a 77 kWh rechargeable battery that promises a range of up to 480km (WLTP).
In addition, the GTX has a modified set-up for suspension and steering as well as the option of a sports suspension with adaptive dampers, progressive steering and reduced ground clearance.
VW has also subtly modified the design, emphasised the basic colour of the bodywork and fitted a few darkened add-on parts.
Volkswagen says the GTX badge will drive up the price of the ID4 to at least €50,415 (RM251,000) in its European home market.
