PETALING JAYA: Police here are calling for motorists to be vigilant after a string of bump-and-rob cases that they believe were perpetrated by the same suspects.
Authorities said the first two cases occurred on Tuesday when two men crashed into and robbed two people of their cars in the city area.
“The following day, a teacher from SMK Bandar Utama 2 was robbed of her vehicle along Persiaran Bandar Utama. We believe the same people were behind these crimes because the suspects used a car they had stolen from one of the earlier victims to rob the teacher,” said OCPD Asst Comm Azmi Abu Kassim.
He said the suspects struck at night and in the early morning, and were not just targeting women.
“The other two cases involved a middle-aged bank executive and a senior citizen, both male. They are just looking for lone targets driving popular models,” he said.
“They will bump into the back of their target’s vehicle and then attack when the victim exits to speak with them. Then they will drive off with the car, leaving the victim behind.”
ACP Azmi advised the public to drive to the nearest police station should they encounter a similar situation, saying that motorists were “under no obligation to exit their cars to negotiate” with the driver who bumped their vehicle.
