WATCH: Chip Foose doesn't like new BMW M3 face, decides to do something about it

LOS ANGELES: Following BMW's reveal of its latest M3 and M4 performance vehicles, its styling cues haven't sat well with enthusiasts and fans of the German brand.

In particular, the M3 and M4's enlarged kidney grilles have been more "miss" than "hit".

One person in particular who has deemed BMW's creations a "miss" is American automotive designer and artist Chip Foose.

Foose went ahead and provided the German automaker with a sketch of what he thinks the M3/M4's front end should look.

Although many would deem this a slap in the face for BMW, it's actually more of a plea to the Bavarian carmaker to reconsider releasing their performance models from its new front end.

To help the front end meld together with the rest of the bodywork, Foose split and re-introduced a healthy dose of a bumper bar - effectively splitting the kidney grille into an upper and lower section.

He also reduced the size of the front air intakes and integrated a pair of horizontal turn signals from the E30-generation M3.

Despite the brickbats, BMW is sticking with the design for the M3 and M4 - at least for this generation.

For some BMW critics, they have learnt to accept the new grille design, which is not the same as loving it.
