Watch: Making of Mercedes' Amber Cube

By CARSIFU | 3 July 2019

STUTTGART: Mercedes-Benz has returned to the story of its Amber Cube, which you may recalled was an original G-Class entombed in resin last year.

It was showcased at the 2018 Detroit auto show after being shipped in from Hamburg, and the Cube with its contents quickly became the most photographed object of the show.

An update on the Amber Cube arrived on July 1, with Mercedes-Benz posting up a clip on how the imposing installation was created. The video has so far attracted over 31,000 since it went live.

A G-Class from 1979 was encased in the resin and it took the crew of workers 90 days and 45 tons of resin to create the installation. The Cube weighs 52 tons with transport rack. With underframe it weighs 46 tons.
