WATCH: Nissan LEAF goes drifting

PETALING JAYA: By now, most people are aware that electric cars (EVs) can outgun traditional race cars on the track, what with their lightweight, powerful motors and instant torque.

At the same time, EVs have always been associated with clean technology, provided the entire supply chain is so.

In a pairing of adrenaline-inducing drifts and electric mobility, Nissan used its LEAF EV to demonstrate maximum torque and force, while delivering virtually silent donuts and burnouts.

The LEAF is no stranger to the race track. Nissan had previously converted the electric car for track use. The LEAF NISMO RC developed by Nissan's racing arm, NISMO, debuted at the annual NISMO Festival at Fuji International Speedway last December, appearing alongside Nissan's new Formula E electric race car.

It saw action on the race track in May as the official pace car for the 2019 Nissan Micra Cup series in Canada.

With dual electric motors, all-wheel-drive and an aggressive, restyled body shape, the purpose-built car demonstrated how Nissan's electric vehicle technology can deliver exciting yet quiet, zero-emission power.

Meanwhile. watch the drift video and see how the world’s best-selling EV is reinforcing the perception that electric cars have a role in motorsports and are not oversized "golf carts".
