Wayne Rooney's BMW i8 up for sale

LONDON: It’s safe to say Wayne Rooney is staying put at Everton this January transfer window, having only completed his move from Manchester United last year.

However, the same cannot be said for the ex-England captain’s beloved BMW i8, which went for sale this week.

The hybrid sports car, which comes in metallic ionic silver, is listed on the UK’s largest automotive marketplace Auto Trader with less than 12,874km on the clock, boasting a top speed of 250kph and a 0-100kph time of 4.4 seconds; not bad a for a car that can also do 2.1l/100km.

Listed for £64,995 (RM358,000), football fans interested in signing the plug-in premiership star are invited to put in a transfer offer of their own, with a part-exchange service advertised on the Auto Trader advert.

“It’s refreshing to see a footballer driving a hybrid, rather than a Chelsea tractor or gas-guzzling super car, and even more so to see a footballer’s car in a sober colour,” said Auto Trader editorial director Erin Baker.

“The trend with more premiership stars plugging-in also reflects the UK car market. Our data for December 2017 shows that searches for electric vehicles were up 56% year-on-year – with hybrid vehicles also showing a substantial 50% rise in searches. .

Leicester City F.C. made news headlines in 2016 when the club’s chairman bought the 2015/16 championship team their own fleet of i8s. However, the registration of Wayne Rooney’s model indicates he was ahead of the curve, first buying his i8 back in 2014.
