KUALA LUMPUR: For Waze users more comfortable with the Cantonese dialect, here's good news.

Waze has taken the effort to offer Cantonese as a voice navigation option.

The option is being rolled out in stages starting from today.

The inclusion of Cantonese was made possible by Waze users from Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Singapore, the United States, and Britain, who volunteered to help make the app more inclusive.

With support and recruitment efforts from the community, the team behind Waze put together the new language option in two months.

The quick turnaround was achieved by the Waze localisation team who adapted the dialect from the existing Chinese language, working together by adjusting Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese to Chinese HK. The team also selected a Hong Kong-approved Chinese language voice to ensure precise pronunciation and directions to give drivers a clear and secure driving experience.

At present, Waze has more than 50 languages available. The Waze app is available for the Android phone and iPhone.
