What Bentley is planning for the ultra-luxury 2021 Bentayga

LONDON: With 20,000 units built in just five years, the Bentayga has become the most successful Bentley model to date. Now, the British exclusive carmaker is taking its off-roader to a new level of luxury.

In the second half of 2020, Bentley will roll out the 2021 Bentayga with a new design, upgraded interior and more space on the back seats.

The updates might seem unusually understated for a brand that usually conjures up images of pure excess.

But don't forget you'll still have the choice of getting a Bentayga with elite extras, and the brand has previously offered its crossover with a diamond-studded Breitling watch and screens on the backrests, not to mention plenty more ultra-luxury in the engine department.

You'll spot the new Bentayga from the outside by a larger, more angled grille and a new rear design with rear lights in the boot lid and a license plate built into the bumper.

Inside, there are, among other things, new seats that will allow up to 10 cm more legroom in the rear, a redesigned cockpit with modernized screens, more connectivity thanks to a built-in SIM card, and a wider choice of colours and veneers.

Nothing changes under the hood, however. The Bentayga starts with a four-litre V8 petrol engine with 550 horsepower that can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 4.5 seconds. The top speed is 290 kph and fuel consumption is put at 11.6 litres (265 g/km CO2).

For those who find the V8 "slow", there's also the prospect of a W12 Speed with 12-cylinder engine in the near future.

And for anyone who wants to spend as much as a quarter of a million dollars on one of these cars, they can ease their conscience by reducing their CO2 emissions with a plug-in hybrid, which will again be an option shortly after its market launch. Bentley hasn't announced prices or launch dates yet.
