Wilayah JPJ switches to full online bidding after 'VDN' plates net RM1.3mil

PUTRAJAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will fully implement the online bidding system in the Federal Territories after successfully collecting RM1.31mil for the "VDN" licence plate series.

Its director-general, Datuk Seri Shaharuddin Khalid, said the use of the e-bidding system had proven be effective in promoting transparency and preventing abuses in transactions.

He also revealed that the highest bid for the VDN series came from a person who offered RM158,000 for the registration number VDN 1.

"The top five highest bid we received for this series is VDN1 with a total of 10 bids; followed by VDN18, with a total of nine bids with the highest at RM10,000.

"VDN111 has seven bidders with the highest amount at RM7,999, VDN118 (six bids) at RM5,305, while VDN188 (six bids) with the highest at RM1,280," he told a press conference yesterday.

Bidding for the VDN number series lasted five days from midnight on June 21 to 11.59pm on June 25.

Shaharuddin said the next series will be the "VDP" plate series, which would be from July 3 until July 7.

He said through the JPJeBid system, the department managed to collect a total of RM1mil for the "VDH" plate series, followed by RM1.12mil for the "VDJ" plate, RM1.14mil for the "VDK" plate series.

The amount has gradually gone up with the "VDL" series at RM1.19mil, RM1.29mil for the "VDM" series and the highest so far is the "VDN" series at RM1.31mil.

"We expect the revenues collected through the online system will continue to rise. We are looking at expanding to use the online bidding system to other states," he said.

He reminded successful bidders to register the plates to a vehicle within a period of 12 months from the offer letter issued by the state or branch JPJ.

"Registration can be done at the portal https://jpjebid.jpj.gov.my or via the JPJeBid mobile app.

"So far we have a total of 320,281 registered bidders in our system. We also handled about 8,600 online transactions per second for the VDN number plate.

"We are confident that we can handle and expand it to other states," Shaharuddin said.
