LONDON: Drivers as young as 10 years old are being taught how to drive under the Young Driver programme.

The programme is the largest provider of driving lessons for pre-17 children and welcomes 170 new Corsa SE Premium to its fleet for children of ages 10 to 17 to helm - courtesy of Vauxhall.

The cars have all been fitted with dual controls and have been distributed to the programme which is being taught at 70 venues across the UK including England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The programme uses fully qualified driving instructors to teach youngsters at private venues, creating realistic road systems which include traffic lights, roundabouts and junctions.

The young drivers get to learn all about gear changing, clutch control, braking, steering and parking in a stress-free and fun environment, helping to extend the learning period and create safer future drivers.

“The pupils and instructors have been very eager to get behind the wheel of this brand new vehicle! They are a perfect car for a new driver, with a high level of standard safety and easy to handle – and they look great," said Young Driver marketing head Sue Waterfield.

She added that the pupils take learning how to drive very seriously while also having plenty of fun with the opportunity to do something that they wouldn’t usually be able to do.
