MONZA: Remember the 599 XX Evo that Ferrari put up for auction to help victims of a quake that hit Italy in May?

The rare car was officially presented on Monday to its new owner  who had put up 1.4 million Euros (RM5.5mil) to buy it.

A special ceremony was held here when the 599 XX Evo was driven into the paddock.

Handing over the keys to its new Californian owner who was here with his wife Christine, was Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo, along with the Scuderia drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa.

Benjamin Sloss received an additional souvenir in the shape of a photo taken outside the team motorhome, alongside the Ferrari men.

Sloss, a Google executive, expressed his delight with the event and said he was happy to have contributed to the cause.

The car was among many items put up for global auction by Ferrari to help raise money for the families who were victims of the earthquake that hit the Emilia Romagna region earlier this year.

Ferrari raised around US$2.3mil (RM7.1mil) from the auction.

The 599XX EVO,  based on a 599 GTB, is designed for track use. The car is 35kg lighter than the 599XX, and sports a radically restyled aero and exhaust package.

It also features electronic upgrades and Pirelli tyres. Peak power and torque from the 6.0-litre V12 engine are 740bhp and 700Nm, enabling it to sprint from 0-100kph in a staggering 2.9s.

The 599XX EVO has an active rear wing which can adjust automatically to provide increased cornering performance.
