Bolts for new Pagani roadster cost more than a luxury BMW

BERLIN: The new hardcore Pagani Huayra hypercar is one of the most expensive cars in the world, but for spare parts, even millionaires will need to dig deep into their pockets, reports the German motoring gazette Autobild.

A set of the lightweight bolts used in making the roadster will set you back US$112,000 (RM470,000), which is enough to buy a new luxury BMW 5 Series sedan.

Of course, it's unlikely that an owner would need one of these fasteners at once, but at US$80 (RM336) a piece, even a handful of the fancy titanium bolts etched with the Pagani name does not come cheaply. A total of 1,400 of the bolts are used to assemble the car.

The designer bolts are made of grade 7 titanium alloy, which has a high palladium content, making it very resistant to corrosion. The material is also used in nuclear reactors.

The Huayra boasts other superlatives, including a 6-litre V12 engine from Mercedes-Benz tuning arm AMG. The unit has 800hp on tap and offers stump-pulling torque.

Despite a price tag of US$3.5 million (RM15mil), the limited edition of 40 Huayras is already sold out. The car is named after Huayra-tata, a two-headed wind god worshipped by indigenous South American Indians
