SEPANG: All new cars must be equipped with the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system from June 1, 2018, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

He said that studies have shown that the ESC system can reduce deaths by 40% while also reducing the risk of collisions.

"It is also the most cost-effective life saving device at present, with positive results from the EU, the US, Canada, Turkey, Australia and more," he said.

Liow was speaking at the Stop the Crash event at the Sepang International Circuit on Tuesday afternoon.

He added that the Government is also studying the eCall system, which is to be implemented in January 2019.

It will automatically notify emergency services with accurate crash information when an accident takes place.
