NEW DELHI: An angry mob and supercars in their midst do not mix.

The owners of this Lamborghini Aventador and a Ferrari 458 Italia found out the hard way when they were caught in a hail of stones that came, not from the sky, but from the angry crowd during a political rally in Uttar Pradesh, India.

This YouTube video, posted up on Sunday, showed the vehicular attack, as the cars make a hasty getaway to avoid further damage to bodyshell and drivers.

It is not known what set off the attack on the prized cars but there have been a number of cases in India where unruly crowds went on the rampage and damage property and vehicles as emotions run high.

The state of Uttar Pradesh is heading for elections in the coming weeks.

Other than the Bollywood big-wigs and scions of the ruling elites, India is also home to a rapidly emerging class of superich entrepreneurs who are firing up sales of supercars. But crowded metro roads and the presence of free-roaming cattle and dogs make it a dicey affair for supercar owners to play with their "toys" except in the early hours of the morning or on the tracks.
